Discover the world through a dog’s eyes at 'Dogs! A Science Tail' exhibit: Ready Pet GO!

This interactive showcase explores the bond between humans and canines, letting visitors experience the world through the eyes, ears and nose of a dog.

CLEVELAND — After a long election season, many of us could use a little calm — and maybe even the comfort of a furry friend. The new “Dogs! A Science Tail” exhibit, opening Friday, Nov. 8 at the Great Lakes Science Center, promises a unique way to unwind while deepening our understanding of our beloved canine companions. This interactive showcase explores the extraordinary bond between humans and dogs, letting visitors experience the world through the eyes, ears, and nose of a dog.

Step Into a Dog’s World

Victoria Joslin, Camp Curiosity Coordinator for the Science Center, explains the appeal of the exhibit: “It’s welcoming dog lovers of all ages and kinds to teach us a little bit about how dogs communicate with each other, how they communicate with us as humans, and how their senses are different than ours,” Joslin said.

The exhibit provides hands-on experiences that bring you closer to understanding how dogs see, hear and smell the world, opening up a fascinating new perspective on our furry friends’ unique abilities.

Canine Superpowers Unleashed

In addition to exploring the sensory world of dogs, visitors can also catch a showing of "Superpower Dogs" in the Center’s Cleveland Clinic Dome Theater. This film highlights the impressive abilities of working dogs, from rescue missions to helping people with disabilities. “It’s amazing what dogs can do, Joslin says, describing the film as a perfect complement to the exhibit.

Test Your Dog Knowledge

The exhibit also includes plenty of fun interactive elements. You can test your dog trivia skills in “Jeopawdy" a dog-themed quiz game, or test your speed against various dog breeds to see if you could actually outrun a greyhound! Curious about why dogs sniff so much or why they spin before lying down? This exhibit dives into these everyday canine quirks, offering insights to help us understand why dogs do what they do.

Bring Your Curiosity, but Leave Your Pup at Home

Though the exhibit is a celebration of dogs, the Science Center asks that you leave yours at home. But there are still plenty of ways for visitors to celebrate their own pets. The exhibit includes areas where you can share your dog’s story and even post a picture. It’s a great opportunity to explore, learn and discover new facts to share with your own dog when you get home.
