CLEVELAND — Our favorite puppy was back at the WKYC studios Tuesday morning.
Roxy is already making great progress in her training to become a Wags 4 Warriors service dog.
"She’s starting to learn her name a little bit," says trainer Kayla DeLorenzo. "She’s starting to sit better. She’s listening, and she’s doing a really great job."
Right now, Roxy is in the process of crate training.
"It’s important for any dog just to start off with crate training, especially now as a puppy instead of later in life. If you were to wait later on in life she wouldn’t do very well. If you were to leave the house and she wasn’t crate trained then she’d be nervous and she’d want to eat everything. So it’s really important to be crate trained now."
An important tip? Make sure you stick with the crate training plan so the dog learns how to adapt.

"You just have to stick to it," DeLorenzo explains. "You can’t give in. I want to cuddle her so bad at night just for her to stop whining and just to cuddle her, but you can’t. You just got to stick to it."
DeLorenzo says it's also important to not use the crate as a punishment.
"It should be her safe place. That’s like her place if she just wants to hang out. That’s her safe place."
We will continue following Roxy's story as she grows and learns how to assist a veteran through Wags 4 Warriors.
