CLEVELAND — Our puppy with a purpose has come a long way!
After following her training for the last year, Roxy is taking her next steps in helping veterans as a therapy dog for the VA.
"She's being so well with her training, but all of the trainers decided -- they kind of evaluated her -- and they realized that she would be such a great fit for a therapy dog instead of a service dog," handler Kayla DeLorenzo said. "What that means is she will be more encouraged to say hi to everybody, and she's not going to be focusing on just one handler. She's going to be able to help so many veterans in the process of being a therapy dog."
She will be going into therapy sessions where veterans with PTSD work with counselors. These vets come in so closed up, and when a therapy dog is present they can relax.
We will continue checking in with Roxy throughout the months ahead to see how she's doing in her role as a therapy dog.
Good girl, Roxy! You really do rock!
