CLEVELAND — Roxy, our Wags 4 Warriors puppy, is still busy with her training.
Kayla DeLorenzo, Roxy’s handler, makes sure the little Labrador Retriever gets her play time in, too. With spring finally here, Roxy is spending more time burning off energy outdoors. It’s an important part of her development, but it can come with some challenges!
“She is a chewer,” DeLorenzo says. “She loves to eat everything. We definitely have to go out there and make sure she is not getting into anything that she is not supposed to.”
That means walking the yard, making sure nothing has blown in that the pup could swallow or choke on.
“We have apple trees outside and after the big storm, they all blew down. And they shouldn’t eat the apple seed, so we have been picking them all up.”
Roxy’s home has a fenced in backyard, that she other the family dogs can run around in. Fences are great, but they can also create a false sense of security.

“Our fence is uneven, so she can fit under in some places.”
DeLorenzo and her family went around and shored up all the possible holes that Roxy could wiggle through.
While their older dogs have a bit more “leash” when it comes to backyard play, Roxy isn’t there yet. She still needs a watchful eye.
“It’s tempting just to let them out, but they shouldn’t be left unsupervised. So you should definitely be out there with them,” DeLorenzo explained.
