'Spooky Pooch Parade' to haunt Lakewood this weekend

The 2019 event takes place Saturday, Oct. 19.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Halloween has gone to the dogs!

Pups dressed in their Halloween best will take over Lakewood in the 12th annual "Spooky Pooch Parade."

It all takes place Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Kauffman Park.

"A favorite Halloween tradition for Northeast Ohio dog lovers and their families, this community festival is a one-of-a-kind event in the region, providing a tail-wagging good time for canine and human guests alike," according to the event's site.

The event features a festival -- including a session of dog yoga -- that's capped off with the pooch parade at 2 p.m. along Detroit Avenue.

Prizes will be passed out to dogs in a variety of categories at 3:15 p.m., including best pooch and child, best pooch and adult, spookiest pooch and best in show.

Event organizers anticipate at least 300 dogs will participate.

Although admission for humans is free, there is a charge for your dog to march in the parade. Pre-registration is $10 per dog, but day-of registration is $15 per dog.
