Major department store chain opening store at The Promenade at Crocker Park in Westlake

The Bed Bath & Beyond location closed in 2023 after the retailer filed for bankruptcy protection and closed all of its stores nationwide.

CLEVELAND — A new retailer is taking over the shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond storefront at The Promenade at Crocker Park in Westlake.

Michelle Boczek, economic development manager for the City of Westlake, confirmed to 3News that national department store chain Macy's will open a store at the shopping center. Boczek did not share any further details about the incoming store.

"In October, we announced plans to accelerate the expansion of our Macy’s small format stores, opening up to 30 additional locations through 2025," a Macy's spokesperson told 3News. "We continue to explore new locations and will share more details as we finalize our plans."

The Westlake Bed Bath & Beyond location closed in 2023 after the retailer filed for bankruptcy protection and closed all of its stores nationwide. The brand has since been revived as an online-only store by the company previously known as Overstock.com.

Macy's, like many national retail chains, has gone through some considerable financial difficulties itself. The iconic department store laid off 2,350 employees in January and announced in February it will close 150 stores over the next three years, including 50 before the end of 2024.

Real estate developer Stark Enterprises, which owns The Promenade at Crocker Park, describes the 278,500 square foot space as a "specialty center situated in the heart of affluence, growth and business activity in Westlake." Other tenants at the shopping center include Regal Cinemas, Nordstrom Rack, Office Max and Market District.
