'Price Lock': Giant Eagle to lower prices on 800 items this summer

The company says the products will be sold at discounts of almost 20% from May 4 through Aug. 9.

PITTSBURGH — Who's looking to save some money on groceries this summer?

Giant Eagle is looking to provide some relief to your wallet, announcing a new "Price Lock" program that will lower the prices of 800 items by an average of almost 20%. The deal begins this Thursday, May 4, and lasts through Aug. 9.

"Our teams worked extremely hard in recent weeks to respond to this by delivering meaningful reductions on hundreds of items with a focus on those that are most popular during the spring and summer months," Interim Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman said in a statement. "Starting this week, customers will benefit from the result of millions of dollars' worth of investment into items across our Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo stores."

According to the company, items affected by the price reduction will include "high-quality foods and everyday essentials" at both Giant Eagle and Market District stores as well as certain products at GetGo. Giant Eagle's printed weekly circular will begin spotlighting the items in the coming days.

"We are putting the customer at the center of everything we do," Artman added. "Right now, our customers are seeking to manage their grocery expenses and telling us they need more ways to save at Giant Eagle to maintain access to the items that are most important to their households."
