4-year-old boy granted wish to become excavator operator for a day

His mom, Ashley, said Jordan’s favorite part of the day is going outside in his back yard to excavate.

VALLEY VIEW, Ohio — A 4-year-old boy was given a very special experience Friday thanks to the Cleveland chapter of A Special Wish and Independence Excavating.

Jordan, who was born with a rare congenital heart defect known as Shone’s complex, wants to be an excavator operator when he grows up. That was the focus of his wish as he was given a uniform, construction boots and a tour of the equipment at Independence Excavating’s Heavy Shop. He even got to ride along with some of the excavators.

We streamed live video of Jordan's wish being granted, which you can watch in the player below:

His mom, Ashley, said Jordan’s favorite part of the day is going outside in his back yard to excavate.

“One of Jordan's first public outings post-op was at Lake Farm Parks, where there were a few excavators and other construction vehicles, since they were doing construction work there at the time,” Ashley said. “He has fallen in love with them ever since! In our back yard we have a special section blocked off with construction cones for him to excavate and dig with his vehicles and equipment.”

Organizers say Jordan underwent surgery for coarctation of the aorta when he was just six days old and spent a month at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital in the PICU.

“At just eight months, he had another open-heart surgery to replace his aortic valve and has been thriving ever since,” organizers said in a press release.
