3 simple tips to organize your garage this summer

For many families, our summer 'stuff' is piled up in the garage.

CLEVELAND — Summer is here, and many of those games activities we want to do in the yard are stored in the garage.

One problem: We need major organization!

Here are a few easy tips from Christina Hidek, of Streamlined Living, to get that summer storage space whipped into shape...

CREATE "ZONES"

“So one of the most important things you need to remember about organizing your garage space is that it'll stay the most organized when you have everything organized by zones or by area.”

USE *ALL* THE WALL SPACE

“Make full use of the wall space in your garage. You want to take advantage of the tall walls and use the space going all the way up.”

PICK UP SOME BASKETS, BINS, HOOKS AND SHELVES

“Take a trip to your home improvement center and see what options they have for the different baskets, bins, and hooks and shelves.”

I also tapped Hidek for help on my space. She suggested I do the following to tidy it up:

“Hi, Lindsay, your space looks really great as it is. And there are just a couple of little tweaks that I'm going to suggest to make it even more functional.”

ORGANIZE SHELVES

“The first place that I would attack are the shelves on the right-hand side.”

CLEAN UP MY FLOOR

“The next area I would take a look at is the area that's kind of in front of the tool section. I see a whole bunch of stuff on the floor and in garages, typically I recommend getting as much up off the floor as possible.”

CREATE "PARKING SPACES" FOR BIKES

“The last thing I would recommend doing, and this will be really fun for your kids too, is to establish a parking lot or parking spaces for the kids, bikes this way.”
