KENT, Ohio — His faith is his passion. Spreading kindness is his hobby.
"All it is, to be honest, is just a little reminder someone is thinking about you on your birthday," Trevor Crews explains.
The Kent native has mailed out around 25,000 birthday tokens, an idea that began back when he was in middle school.
What started out as a birthday call turned into Crews sending out a "birthday dollar" in high school and college -- but that became too expensive.
So for the past 16 years, Crews has spent about 10 hours a week spreading this birthday kindness with a poker chip he calls the "Troubleshootin' Trevor" Token.
It’s been a friendly gesture whether he knows you or not.
Trevor writes happy birthday and your name on one side of a poker chip along with your age and date on the other side. Then he puts in the mail.
Why does he do it?
"It's the love of people," he tells 3News' Dave Chudowsky. "Not many people get recognized on their birthday, only like friends and family know that, and so if a complete stranger can come in and make your day a little brighter, I'm going to do it."
With 10 different colored poker chip options, Crews will send you one for 10 straight years.
His love for birthdays and his hobby has also created a following on social media.
But that's not all... Watch the moment Danielle Wiggins, Maureen Kyle and Hollie Strano were each surprised with their own special birthday tokens live on the air:
