Heinen's has been a favorite among Northeast Ohioans for a more upscale grocery experience, and its shoppers have noticed.
According to Consumer Reports' reader ratings, which were published this month, Heinen's ranks third overall in supermarkets across the country. Central Market in Texas ranked first, followed by Wegmans at No. 2.
Heinen's received an overall score of 89, with "Excellent" ratings for cleanliness, staff help, checkout speed, produce quality and variety, meat quality, healthy selections and local produce selection. Its lowest category score was competitiveness of prices, which received a "Fair" rating.
The overall ratings were based on more than 75,000 responses to a Consumer Reports reader survey, in which respondents discussed their experiences at stores from July 2017 to September 2018.
Heinen's has nearly 20 Northeast Ohio locations and four more outside Chicago. The brand's downtown Cleveland location has become a tourist destination due to its prepared foods and beautiful ceiling.
Despite the chain's success, owners Tom and Jeff Heinen told WKYC in January that they have no current plans to expand to any more markets.
