CLEVELAND — With the cost of groceries and gas going up, who doesn't want another option to save where they can? Giant Eagle has announced a new loyalty program aimed to help their customers save both in-store and at the pump.
The new myPerks program works in compliment of the company’s existing fuelperks+ program, where shoppers get 10 cents off per gallon of fuel for every $50 they spend. With myPerks, customers can redeem rewards or perks wherever they choose with the flexibility of the program.
"This is a change to a dollar-based program," Dan Donovan, spokesperson for Giant Eagle, told 3News. "Shifting from a percentage-based program to this dollars-based program provides more of an immediacy and a confirmation of what you will get off your next purchase, regardless on how big that transaction is."
For every 50 perks guests earn, they will receive a $1 reward, allowing them to use the rewards whenever and wherever they want within any Giant Eagle, Market District or GetGo location.
"Guests can also still earn perks while they're redeeming," Donovan said. "When you have the big baskets in the fuelperks program, you don't earn perks on that transaction when you're redeeming those rewards. But given the frequency that we believe folks in the myPerks program will redeem, we wanted to make sure we didn't miss that opportunity to also earn perks on those redemption transactions."
Rewards of the new program include personalized benefits resulting in free groceries and fuel via a "first-of-its-kind" loyalty program. Guests of the rewards program will have the option to switch to a new multi-tiered program that will deliver groceries and impact gas savings in various ways, and shoppers will also be able to get extra perks when purchasing any Giant Eagle brand products.
"We also have specific days during the months where we'll have double perk or triple perk days," Donovan explained. "MyPerks customers will earn more on those days than they would on other days."
There will also be more time to redeem these perks through the myPerks program since customers have at least 90 days to redeem perk rewards, an increase from the 60-day period for the traditional fuelperks+ program.
"You can still get free groceries or opt to instead redeem and get free gas,” Donovan said. "The core elements of the traditional program exist."
