Gov. DeWine signs House Bill 170: What it means for CARES Act funding within Ohio schools

The bill 'provides $787.3 million coronavirus relief assistance to Ohio's public and private schools.'

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 170 Wednesday morning, which provides “assistance to schools and other entities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

So what does that actually mean for Ohio?

"House Bill 170, sponsored by Representative Adam Bird and Representative Tracy Richardson, provides $787.3 million coronavirus relief assistance to Ohio's public and private schools," Gov. DeWine's office said in a press release. "Additionally, House Bill 170 provides $173 million to the Ohio Department of Health for COVID-19 testing and vaccine distribution efforts, and $7 million to further support the Ohio National Guard's response to the coronavirus pandemic."

The bill landed on Gov. DeWine’s desk after it was passed by both the Ohio House and Senate.

Those at the bill signing also included:

  • Rep. Adam Bird, Ohio House of Representatives
  • Rep. Tracy Richardson, Ohio House of Representatives
  • Sen. Andrew O. Brenner, Ohio Senate
