WOOSTER, Ohio — Howard Freeman, 89, marked his first hole-in-one at the age of 85. He's been playing golf for decades.
"I started caddying in 1941," said Freeman "I was 11 years-old."
At the age of 89, he captured his third and fourth holes-in-one within three days while playing at Wooster Country Club where he's been a member for the past 35 years.
"I’m the oldest guy here," said Freeman as he drove around the golf course Friday afternoon.
On May 16, Freeman captured a hole-in-one on the 132-yard eighth hole at the country club.
"You never expect it."
On May 18, it happened again on the 150-yard third hole.
"Surprise, surprise," said Freeman. "It went in again. We all were shocked. Surprised because it doesn’t happen that often."
So what are the odds?
"Somebody told me 12,000 to one for one hole in one."
That’s the figure from the National Hole-In-One Registry. They report the odds are 12,000 to 1 for an amateur golfer on a par 3 hole.
Freeman has gained attention on the golf course. His name joins the list of hole-in-one golfers so far this year.
His secret for the best shot?
"There’s a lot of luck to it, but sometimes you hit the perfect shot."
