Lakewood teacher gets back-to-school surprise

Every year teachers spend their own money to benefit the classroom. This year, we decided to lighten the load for one fourth grade teacher.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Walking into Meijer in Avon, Leah Nagy is ready for back-to-school shopping.

The veteran teacher of Lakewood Catholic Academy has a full list of every item she needs to set her kids up for success as they start a new school year.

"I have my teacher list," Nagy said. "Pencils, erasers, glue, scissors. You name it, it's on the list."

Items essential to teach with, that in most cases, teachers like Nagy have to pay for themselves.

"Every year I spend a few hundred dollars getting ready for back to school."

Instead of looking at it as a burden, Nagy see's it as an investment.

"What my kids need, I need to have for them. If I can have my classroom what it needs to be for my kids, they will thrive and be successful."

This year's shopping trip... $185.

As a thank you, we here at WKYC picked up the tab for Nagy as she heads back to school.

Thank you to all teachers for everything that you do!
