AKRON, Ohio — The Kaulig Companies Championship held at Firestone Country Club in Akron this past July raised a record amount of money for local charities.
It was announced Tuesday night that more than $1.2 million will be shared by 18 local charities. Since 1984, the professional golf events have raised more than $31 million. This was the first year Kaulig Companies was the tile sponsor, and they couldn’t be happier with the results.
“We get to help people in our community,” said Matt Kaulig, the Executive Chairman of Kaulig Companies. “It’s not a national thing, obviously the PGA is national, but we are right here in our community with the people we love and care about.”
“It’s great to get the community behind this. We had 50 different companies get behind this thing and it is just getting started,” said Tim Clepper, the President & CEO of Kaulig Companies.
“What makes this really different from other professional sports is what the community puts in, after we pay our bills to run the event, we give those proceeds back to a lot of great causes,” echoed Kaulig Companies Championship Executive Director, Don Padgett.
Representatives of golf event and charitable organizations celebrated at House Three Thirty in Akron.
Next year’s Kaulig Companies Championship is July 10 - 14.
