New memorial in North Ridgeville honors veterans

'It's a place where people can come and reflect and remember.'

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — For the first time ever, North Ridgeville has a permanent way to honor veterans on this Memorial Day.

Volunteers have been working diligently to complete the Veterans Memorial on Bainbridge Road with the project four years in the making.

Mark Steinbrunner is president of the volunteer group in charge of the memorial. The former Ohio Air National Guard member explained why this project is so important to him.

“We just have so many veterans that need to be honored," he says. "Not just the fallen, but our past veterans.”

He relied heavily on donations and volunteers to turn this empty plot of land into the new memorial.

Aside from the fountain and flag poles, there are pavers available for purchase.

“We have pavers here where veterans can go out and they can purchase a paver if they want to be part of the memorial.”

Steinbrunner says the memorial has plenty of room for expansion, and he hopes it serves as a safe space for years to come.

“It's a place where people can come and reflect and remember."
