CLEVELAND — Upon exploring some issues raised in The Sum of Us by author Heather McGhee, 3News hosted "A Turning Point" panel conversation on Tuesday afternoon connected to the concerns surrounding environmental racism and justice.
3News contributor Chris Webb moderated the discussion on how to be solution-oriented when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion issues, climate justice and building an interracial coalition around environmental issues.
In her book, McGhee devotes a chapter to these issues and gives examples of communities that have come together across racial lines to make meaningful change.
The panel for this discussion included:
- Leah Hudnall, Director of The Ohio Climate Justice Fund, a participatory grantmaking program that invests in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color organizations in Ohio, working at the intersection of racial justice and climate action.
- John Mitterholzer, Program Director for Climate and Environment Justice with The George Gund Foundation. He is the former chair of the Funders Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities, the current co-chair of the Climate and Energy Funders Group and an active member of the Environmental Grantmakers Association.
