CLEVELAND — On Wednesday, Velosano officials happily announced the total amount raised from this year's event, sharing a "record-high" number that will go towards finding a cure for cancer.
Participants and fundraisers for this event helped raise more than $5.1 million for cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic- a number that brings the total amount raised over the years up to more than $29 million.
Over 4,000 people participated in this year's various fundraising and biking events and distances, supporting local research that will have a major global impact.
“We are so grateful to everyone involved in making this a record-breaking fundraising year for VeloSano,” said Jame Abraham, M.D., interim chair of Taussig Cancer Institute, Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center. “The support, passion and energy is contagious, and helps us to continue to advance cancer research to the next level.”
Partners for this event include The Kohl Fund, the Cleveland Guardians, Jones Day, Lexus, and many more. According to officials, the event has helped to fund more than 170 research projects since its inception in 2014.
This year, WKYC also had a team take part in the event, raising more than $93,000 this year that will go directly towards finding a cure for cancer.
