1 dead, 1 hurt in Maple Heights shooting

Maple Heights police say the incident happened around 1 a.m. on Fairway Avenue.

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — One person is dead and another has been hurt in an overnight shooting, Maple Heights police said in a news release.

It happened at around 1 a.m. Monday when a 37-year-old male called for help, reporting he had been shot in the head. Officers responded and found the male near the intersection of Fairway Avenue and Camden Road, the release said. The male was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

Officers also responded to a home on Fairway Avenue based on another 911 call. There, they found a second male, 38 years old, who had been fatally shot. He has been identified as Ramon R. Ross of Newark.

The preliminary investigation indicated there were multiple people in a house on Fairway Avenue when an argument started. Two males pulled out guns and started shooting. That's when Ross was killed, and the 37-year-old male was shot and injured, the release said.

Maple Heights police detectives are investigating the case. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
