Police: 62-year-old man dead following Columbus shooting; suspect in custody

Officers were called on a report of a shooting just after 4:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of East 17th Avenue.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 62-year-old man has died and a suspect is in custody following a shooting on the city's north side earlier this month, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

On Nov. 12, officers were called to the 1300 block of East 17th Avenue in South Linden on a report of a shooting just after 4:30 p.m.

Police found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as Spencer Brown, was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and later upgraded to "stable." Police said Brown later died of his injuries on Nov. 23.

Christopher Shanks, 32, has been arrested in connection to the shooting and has been charged with felonious assault. Shanks is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail pending additional charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 27.

The incident remains under investigation.
