One of the victims in an alleged hit-and-run crash that took place in University Heights last week has died, police confirmed Wednesday.
The suspect in the collision, 64-year-old Wiley Bridgeman of Richfield, has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and two counts of stopping after an accident. He was officially served with the charges Tuesday evening.
Authorities say Bridgeman struck two TraffTech construction workers around 3 a.m. last Thursday on Cedar Road. The victims, 54-year-old David Sollars of Rocky River and a 46-year-old Elyria man, were both taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. WKYC has confirmed Sollars has since passed away.
Bridgeman allegedly kept on driving before crashing into a poll at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. He then spoke to 911 operators, at times appearing disoriented.
Bridgeman has been in the news before: In 2014, he was freed from prison after nearly 40 years following a wrongful murder conviction.
