CLEVELAND — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left a 1-year-old boy dead Sunday morning.
Jay York, 60, was driving southbound on East 133rd Street in a 2020 Chevy Malibu when he veered off the road striking a tree just after 1: 30 a.m.
His passenger, Nadia Minor, 49, was also in the car with her 1-year-old grandson.The boy was sitting on Minor's lap in the front seat of the car at the time of the crash.
All three victims were transported to University Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead. The conditions of the other two victims are unknown at this time. 3News is choosing not to disclose the child’s name due to his age.
The driver is reportedly the boyfriend of the child's grandmother.
Alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors in the crash. Official charges have not yet been filed but are expected at a later date.
“This is a senseless tragedy that should have been avoided,” said Lieutenant R. E. Gable with the Ohio State Highway Patrol .
The young child is the 32nd person in 2020 to be killed as the result of a traffic accident in Cuyahoga County.
