Westlake High School students released late on Wednesday following alleged threat; 13-year-old from Cleveland faces charges

According to police, the teen 'had no means of harm to anyone in Westlake.' Students were released 30 minutes late on Wednesday.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A Cleveland teen is facing criminal charges following an alleged threat made against Westlake High School on Wednesday.

Police increased their presence at the building on Hilliard Boulevard after the threat was called in. While authorities said they had "absolutely no reason to believe this is a valid threat," students' scheduled dismissal was delayed by about 30 minutes while the main parking lot was blocked off.

Roughly 90 minutes after the threat was first reported, officials say the suspect was identified as a 13-year-old in Cleveland "who had no means of harm to anyone in Westlake." The child and their family are now cooperating, with felony charges excepted to be filed against the teen in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

All other schools in Westlake were dismissed at their normal times.
