AKRON, Ohio — When authorities were called to a home in the 1900 block of Scudder Avenue in Akron around 1 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check, they found 50-year-old Brenda Powell with life-threatening injuries.
Her daughter, 19-year-old Sydney Powell, was also found with minor injuries.
Both were taken to the hospital where Brenda later died.
Akron police say “detectives determined that [Sydney] Powell assaulted her mother during an argument," which resulted in Brenda's death.
Sydney has been charged with murder, but remains in the hospital as of Wednesday morning undergoing medical treatment.
On Wednesday, the Summit County Medical Examiner determined that her cause of death was multiple sharp and blunt force injuries. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
No additional details were immediately available.
