ELYRIA, Ohio — Authorities say a pair of inmates who escaped from the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility earlier this week have been captured.
The update was confirmed around 11 a.m. Friday as authorities say both men have been taken into custody.
It comes after a few days after Steven A. Carpenter and Johnny L. Brooks Jr. were able to break a window and escape from the facility located on Murray Ridge Road in Elyria around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Brooks was arrested at a hotel near the 2900 block of Arlington Road in Akron. A woman was also found at this location, who authorities say has been detained "for her possible involvement in the escape and harboring of the fugitives."
Carpenter was arrested by the fugitive task force and the Wadsworth Police Department near the corner of Main Street and East Bergey in Wadsworth. Police say his capture comes after they received a tip that Carpenter had been seen walking on Main Street near Walnut Street.
"Great partnerships from all our law enforcement partners in Lorain County is what made these arrests possible," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. "We are thankful for all federal, state and local partners that contribute to the ongoing success of our task force."
Authorities said Carpenter was incarcerated at LMCBCF for burglary, while Brooks was incarcerated for possession of drugs.
