CLEVELAND — Two teenage girls have been arrested for the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Cleveland that occurred this past April.
According to the U.S. Marshals, the two teenagers -- a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old -- were wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder following the fatal shooting of Kanye Williams.
The incident occurred on April 7 when officers were dispatched to the area of 8000 Golden Avenue in Cleveland's Fairfax neighborhood for shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found Williams slumped over in a vehicle, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Additionally, officers found a juvenile male who had suffered gunshot wounds on the street near E. 79th and Quincy Ave. According to police, it is believed that the two males were getting into a vehicle, attempting to leave a residence on Golden Avenue when they were fired upon.
On Wednesday morning, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested the two teenage female suspects in connection with the murder. The 15-year-old was arrested from a residence near the 7900 block of Golden Ave., while the 17-year-old was arrested at an address near the 2200 block of E. 89th Street.
Both arrests came as a part of "Operation 216," a partnership between the city of Cleveland and the U.S. Marshals targeting criminal hotpots in the area. With the two arrests, seven homicide suspects in Cleveland have been arrested since the operation was first announced last week.
“Strong local, state, and federal law enforcement relationships are the key to helping reduce violent crime. The US Marshals will continue to work side by side with the officers of the Cleveland Division of Police to take violent fugitives off the street," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement.
