BROOKLYN, Ohio — Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County has announced a $2,500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of those who vandalized a Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn this past weekend.
Entrance markers as well as 23 gravestones at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery were found spray-painted with red swastikas on Sunday. While Brooklyn police are investigating the incident, no suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
"It's very unfortunate. Desecrating graves is just beyond the pale," Brooklyn Mayor Ron Van Virk told 3News Monday. "I hope that the people are brought to justice that did this."
Referring to the matter as a "hate crime," Crime Stoppers says tipsters can remain anonymous and can offer info by either calling (216) 252-7463 or logging on to 25crime.com. In the meantime, members of the area Jewish community and others have spent the past few days cleaning the desecrated headstones.
