Police arrest 2nd suspect in shooting at Lakewood's Madison Park; basketball court temporarily closed

Emmanuel Cedeno is charged with attempted murder in the shooting of an 18-year-old man.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Police have arrested another suspect in connection with a shooting at Lakewood's Madison Park this past Tuesday.

Eighteen-year-old Emmanuel M. Cedeno was taken into custody Friday evening at the Super 8 motel in Westlake. He is charged with attempted murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Cedeno is the second man to be apprehended after an 18-year-old man was shot on the park's basketball court. Corey M. Froberg (also 18) was charged Thursday with complicity to attempted murder, implying that officials believe it was Cedeno who fired the shots at the victim. Froberg's car is alleged to have played some sort of role.

Authorities say the unnamed victim got into some sort of altercation with Cedeno and Froberg before being shot twice in the chest around 6:47 p.m. Tuesday. The teen was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he is said to be in critical but stable condition.

Also on Friday, the basketball hoops at Madison Park's court have been removed and the area has been temporarily closed. Lakewood Mayor Meghan F. George made the decision to shut down the court on the recommendation of the police department, citing "additional evidence" in the case.

"While we understand the importance to the community that our basketball courts serve as wonderful recreational outlets, my obligation as Safety Director is to ensure a safe environment for all patrons of the park," George said in a video statement. "We look forward to reopening the court as soon as possible."

Court dates for both Cedeno and Froberg have not been set.
