EUCLID, Ohio — A 71-year-old man was found fatally shot in his Euclid home after a 14-year-old was pulled over driving his car in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
According to the Euclid Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police pulled over a 14-year-old driver in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday morning. State Police proceeded to call Euclid police, suggesting that they check on the owner of the car. While doing so, Euclid police discovered 71-year-old Larry Anderson deceased from a gunshot wound.
"When we got to the house, we knocked on the windows and the doors and nobody answered and as we got around to the back of the house, we found the door was open already, so we went inside and unfortunately inside we found Mr. Anderson, he was dead apparently from a gun shot wound," said Euclid Police Capt. Mitch Houser.
Houser said currently police do not believe there are other victims or suspects tied to the incident.
"Our hats are off to the Pennsylvania State Police for doing an excellent job, they turned a traffic stop into what might very well solve a murder investigation," Houser said.
Anderson's neighbors were shocked by his tragic death.
"This is usually a very quiet street and I'm just really kind of a little bit heartbroken that he wont be here," Karen Gilbert said.
Other neighbors told 3News he was the angel of the neighborhood, always keeping an eye out, helping others and spreading a kind smile with a happy wave.
"He would shovel the snow out the driveway if you needed help when we had snowstorms or anything, or ask him about keeping the yard or doing flowers he was able to give you advice on that," Gilbert said. "I am so sad that he wont be in this neighborhood."
The 14-year-old is currently in custody in Pennsylvania with Euclid police working to get him extradited back to Euclid. The time frame could vary depending on if the teen demands a probable cause hearing or cooperates and allows officers to pick him up.
It is not currently known if there is any relationship between the suspect and the victim.
