Akron man arrested in connection with deadly shooting, crash on I-77 in Green: Suspect's bond set at $1 million

Sirvonte Suggs, 18, is charged with aggravated murder in the death of Marquise Banks back in August.

AKRON, Ohio — Summit County Sheriff's deputies have made an arrest more than four months after a deadly shooting that took place on Interstate 77.

Officials say Sirvonte Suggs, 18, was captured Monday at a home on Florida Avenue in Akron. Suggs is charged with aggravated murder in the killing of 23-year-old Marquise Banks. He made his first court appearance Tuesday morning where bond was set at $1 million. The case has now been bound over to a Summit County Grand Jury.

The situation stems from an Aug. 3 incident that saw a passenger in a pickup truck fire several rounds at a Lincoln SUV on I-77 south in Green, just north of Akron-Canton Regional Airport. As the truck fled the area, the Lincoln veered across the median and into the northbound lanes, where it struck a Mercedes.

Banks, the driver of the Lincoln, was later pronounced dead at Summa Akron City Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes also suffered unspecified injuries.

Detectives now believe Banks and Suggs were involved in "an ongoing dispute" prior to the shooting, and Suggs was eventually identified as a suspect. Authorities who searched the Florida Avenue residence also found suspected drugs and ammunition, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Suggs is currently being held at the Summit County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
