AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating two robberies that took place over New Year's weekend in the city.
The first robbery happened last Friday night at the GameStop location in the 300 block of Howe Avenue.
Officers responded to calls of the robbery at approximately 8:40 p.m.
They spoke to an employee at the store who told them that the suspect entered the store, took out a handgun and demanded money from the register. After the suspect got the money, they fled the store.
Officers searched the area and could not locate the suspect. The suspect was described as a 6 foot tall male around 25 to 30 years old.
Hours later, Akron officers responded to another robbery in the city just after midnight at the Denny's location in the 1600 block of Home Avenue.
When officers talked to staff at the Denny's, an employee said the suspect entered the restaurant and demanded money from the cash register at gunpoint. The suspect then fled the location on foot after getting the money.
Akron police say they are working to see if these robberies are related to each other in any way.
Detectives are working to determine if these incidents are related and what connection they may have to similar recent robberies.
