AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspects who allegedly assaulted and robbed a 71-year-old man as part of an apparent Facebook Marketplace scam over the weekend.

According to a release, the victim told Akron police he was robbed just before 6 p.m. Saturday while trying to buy an iPhone that was advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The victim said he arranged to meet the "would-be-seller" at the McDonald's on East Market Street.

But as the transaction was taking place, the suspects apparently "punched the victim several times and took an undisclosed amount of money from him."

While the suspects fled the scene "in an unknown direction" following the robbery, the victim sustained "visible injuries," but apparently declined to be treated by EMS.

Akron police say detectives are working to identify the suspects involved in the incident. In the meantime, the investigation remains ongoing.
