Akron police searching for man who allegedly threatened to harm bank customers during robbery attempt

AKRON, Ohio — Police are currently searching for a man accused of trying to rob a downtown Akron bank Friday afternoon.

According to officials, the suspect entered the KeyBank on South Main Street and demanded a teller give him cash. When he didn't receive any, he allegedly tried to grab money from one of the customers before threatening to kill everyone inside. He later fled without harming anyone or stealing anything.

The suspect is described as being in his 30s and is around 5-foot-10 and weighs roughly 170 pounds with black braided hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a gold hoodie, a black Michael Jordan brand baseball cap, blue jeans, and black and tan shoes. He was also carrying a black and red backpack.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to immediately call the Akron Police Department's detective bureau at (330) 375-2490 or the Summit County Crimestoppers at (330) 434-2677. Anonymous tips can also be texted to 274637.
