Akron police: Search is on for man who allegedly robbed grocery store with knife

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is asking for the public's help in tracking down the man who allegedly robbed a grocery store on Monday. 

According to a release from the department, officers responded to a call of a robbery at Value Food Market (formerly Save a Lot) in the 500 block of South Canton Road at approximately 9:35 a.m. When police arrived, they met with a store employee who told them that the suspect entered the store, pulled out a knife, and demanded money from the safe. 

Police say the suspect took "an undisclosed amount" of money and fled northbound out of the store. There were no injuries reported. 

"Detectives are working to gather additional information and seek to identify the subject in the below photographs. Investigators consider him a person of interest in connection to the robbery," Akron police stated in their release.

The suspect is described as 40-50 years old, around 5 feet 9 inches tall or taller, and weighing approximately 190-210 pounds.
