AKRON, Ohio — Following a rather bizarre robbery in Akron Monday evening, police are warning residents about what they are calling a dangerous "game."
According to officials, a 70-year-old man made contact with a woman on a website called "Skip the Games" (a provider of "adult services") and went to the 800 block of Sheridan Avenue to meet her. However, just after 6 p.m., a woman instead jumped into the driver's seat of his car while another man forced the 70-year-old back inside at knife point.
The two suspects allegedly drove the victim around to several ATMs trying to withdraw money before they forced him to go inside a business on the 1300 block of Copley Road. Once inside, the victim was able to alert the business that a robbery was taking place, and the suspects fled in the victim's stolen car. The vehicle was later recovered in the Kenmore neighborhood roughly seven hours later, but the accused assailants were no where to be seen.
The male suspect was described as being between 30 and 35 years old and was wearing a dark hoodie and a scarf over his face, while the female is said to be the same age and had a black Cleveland State University hoodie on. Both should be considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities say this is at least the third local robbery involving this scam, and are asking people not to venture on to skipthegames.com. Anyone with information regarding these suspects' identities or whereabouts is asked to immediately call the Akron Police Department's detective bureau at (330) 375-2490.
