Akron man wanted in alleged road rage incident

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A 28-year-old Akron man, identified as Joseph Mitchner, is wanted for three counts of felonious assault following an alleged road rage incident.

Authorities say it started around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday when deputies responded to Portage Lakes Drive in Coventry Township. Upon their arrival it was reported the suspect assaulted a 27-year-old woman in a parking lot.

“It was reported that Mitchner fled the parking lot in his SUV and subsequently almost struck a Ford Escape on Portage Lakes Drive,” the Summit County Sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Mitchner began honking at the driver of the Ford Escape and he fired at least two rounds from a handgun at the vehicle.”

Mitchner reportedly fled the area when the driver of the Escape pulled over. No bullets struck the vehicle or any of the occupants.

Warrants have been issued for Mitchner’s arrest.

The situation remains under investigation.
