AKRON, Ohio — A 19-year-old Akron man is in custody after police say he broke into an area car dealership in the early morning hours on Monday.
According to a release from the Akron Police Department, officers responded to a break-in at VanDevere Kia in the 300 block of West Market Street just before 2 a.m.
Police officials say when officers arrived at the dealership, "they found the suspect in the parking lot with a key fob, tampering with vehicles."
The release adds that "several cars were running with lights on, and the suspect later admitted to taking keys from the business to access the vehicles." In addition, officers apparently found the front door to the dealership shattered and at least two vehicles on the car lot with broken windows.
During the investigation, Akron police say they also determined that the suspect entered the closed car dealership and drove one of the cars around the parking lot.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Christian Caldwell, was arrested and later booked into the Summit County Jail. Caldwell was charged with breaking and entering, unauthorized use of motor vehicles, theft, criminal mischief, and criminal damage.
