COLLINS, Ohio — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation confirms it executed a search warrant Thursday at the Huron County residence of Frederick Reer, charged in the alleged 2017 murder of 36-year-old Amanda Dean.
According to a brief statement from BCI, agents searched the Reer family property on Wells Road near Collins, something they had also done multiple times prior to Reer's arrest this past February. Officials did not specify what investigators may have been looking for.
Reer, Dean's boyfriend at the time of her July 2017 disappearance, is accused of killing Dean before dismembering her body. Per the indictment against him, prosecutors believe the murder occurred on a bed inside a shack the couple shared, with authorities alleging Reer burned the mattress and disposed of the bloody sheets before cleaning up the scene.
Dean's remains have yet to be located, and Reer is additionally charged with abuse of a corpse as well as four counts of tampering with evidence. He is currently being held in the Huron County Jail on a $1 million bond, and court records show he was ruled competent to stand trial during a September hearing. He has pleaded not guilty, and a trial date has been set for March 10, 2025.
Prior to Reer's arrest, Dean's whereabouts had been unknown for almost seven years as her loved ones searched for answers. Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin told 3News Investigates in 2020 that, per his knowledge, Dean was "being cared for" at a domestic violence shelter, but Dean's family did not believe she would go so long without contacting them. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office and BCI eventually took over the case in 2022.
Following Reer's indictment, 3News attempted to contact the Huron County Sheriff's Office for comment on the latest developments, but did not receive a response. Dean's mother, Caroline Tokar, claims Reer abused her daughter during their relationship and that one of Corbin's deputies had "denied" the family from filing a missing persons report.
Dean is survived by four children.
