CHARDON, Ohio — Geauga County Sheriff's deputies on Thursday announced an arrest in a recent string of violent armed attacks at gas stations and discount stores.
32-year-old David Johnson was taken into custody in Euclid. Police say he recently robbed at least seven businesses across Lake and Geauga Counties, and had already served 10 years on an aggravated manslaughter charge stemming from another armed robbery years ago.
Witnesses saw his copper-colored Kia, which helped track him down. Investigators were also able to match clothes in Johnson’s home with those they saw in surveillance video.
Sheriff Scott A. Hildenbrand said this was a "big event" and they took a "bad guy" off the street. Officials added the attacks had become increasingly violent.
