CLEVELAND — FBI officials in Atlanta and Cleveland are joining forces to investigate vandalism at an Atlanta church as authorities say “one or more of the subjects” seen in surveillance video may have ties to central or northern Ohio.
The situation dates back to Sunday, July 3, 2022, just days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.
That’s when the FBI says a group of 10 people were captured on video vandalizing the outside of the Ebenezer Baptist Church Heritage Sanctuary.
FBI officials say a member -- or members -- of the group sprayed the following words on the side of the church: “if abortions arent safe neither are you.”
The group was dressed in all black.
“Less than a minute later, cameras recorded the people walk away from the church and cross Auburn Avenue and toward the Memorial Rose Garden,” FBI officials said in a press release Monday morning. “A few minutes later, a group of 10 people walked from the area of the Garden, no longer wearing black clothing.”
Here are two photos of those seen on camera:
FBI officials say camera footage then shows the group separating into a group of six and four.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for this crime. Anybody with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or send tips to Tips.FBI.gov.
Tipsters can remain anonymous.
