BARBERTON, Ohio — A 44-year-old Barberton man -- identified as Shannon Karr -- was arrested Sunday night after a SWAT standoff in the area of 2nd Street SW and Palmer Avenue.
The Barberton Police Department says it was around 6:40 p.m. when officers responded to the scene “for a report of a male who fired a gun into his neighbor’s house.”
When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly noticed a bullet hole in the neighbor’s residence.
Police say officers gave demands for the suspect to come off the porch, but he allegedly refused and went back into his house.
“Officers could see the suspect through an open window and continued to give commands to come outside, but the suspect refused to comply with the officers,” according to a press release from the Barberton Police Department.
A SWAT team was activated.
“A negotiator attempted to make contact with the suspect for almost two hours, but received no response,” according to the press release. “SWAT officers fired multiple gas rounds into the house in an effort to get the suspect to come outside and surrender.”
A short time later, police say the suspect came outside and surrendered.
Nobody was hurt throughout the incident, according to Barberton police.
Police say Karr was charged with improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, which is a felony of the second degree. He was booked in the Summit County Jail.
