Ohio BCI investigating officer-involved shooting at Burlington store in Macedonia

A spokesperson for the Ohio BCI told 3News that no officers were injured as a result of the shooting.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — An investigation was opened Sunday after a shooting involving a Macedonia police officer took place at the Burlington Coat Factory off of State Route 82.

According to the Macedonia Police Department, officers responded to the store following the report of a theft. Upon entering the store, officers were able to locate and make contact with the suspect.

A struggle proceeded to ensue, which resulted in one officer discharging their firearm with an individual transported to a local hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the Ohio BCI told 3News that no officers were injured as a result of the shooting, but did not specify the status or condition of any non-officers involved in the incident.

Per city policy, the officer involved in the incident has been placed on leave as the incident is investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. In a statement, the city of Macedonia said that it is also investigating the incident.
