A Bedford teen has died four days after being shot in the head, and one of his classmates is accused of pulling the trigger.
Eighteen-year-old Royce Hamilton passed away Friday at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Witnesses told police he was sitting in a car Monday afternoon on McKinley Avenue when he exchanged words with a 16-year-old suspect, who then fired a gun into the vehicle. The driver of the car then rush Hamilton to the emergency room.
Both teens attended Bedford High School, where the junior Hamilton played for the Bearcats football team. The two were apparently "familiar with each other," but the incident "does not appear to be related, in any way, to anything at the high school."
The suspect was arrested hours later (with the firearm allegedly still in his pants) and charged with felonious assault, and additional charges are expected now that Hamilton is dead. As the suspect is a juvenile and has been charged as such, his name has not been released.
Bedford Police are continuing to gather information and evidence. The school district has not yet commended on Hamilton's death.
