EUCLID, Ohio — A 33-year-old man who has been wanted since January for aggravated murder in Bedford Heights was captured early Tuesday morning in Euclid.

The suspect, identified as Bernard Walter Lewis Lonnie Sparks, was found sleeping inside a vehicle in a parking lot near the 26500 block of Brush Avenue, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Sparks was wanted for multiple charges – including aggravated murder, attempted murder, aggravated burglary and felonious assault – for the Jan. 5 shooting death of 25-year-old Zaire Montez Garrett.

Authorities say it happened when Sparks allegedly broke into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Eytae France.

“He crept into her bedroom, woke her up and proceeded to shoot her friend,” authorities said.

Garrett was shot in the back of the head. He later died at the hospital.

France was also hurt as the bullet became lodged in her body after it passed through Garrett, according to authorities. She survived.

Sparks fled the scene and had been on the run since.

“The fear this fugitive brought to the families of these victims is unimaginable, he belongs behind bars,” says U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. “Hopefully, these families have some peace knowing he is not out on the streets any longer.”
