CLEVELAND – Police Chief Calvin D. Williams confirmed today that assault charges were filed today against Cleveland Police Patrol Officer Edwin Powell.
Powell was additionally charged with menacing and Interfering with civil rights.
The charges filed resulted from an Internal Affairs investigation into allegations of misconduct by Powell while he was working secondary employment.
The results of the investigation then were presented to the City of Cleveland's Municipal Prosecutors Office.
Powell received a municipal summons and is scheduled to appear in court room 3-C at 8:30 a.m. March 11.
Powell will be placed on administrative duties pending a disciplinary hearing in front of Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath.
