LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — A juvenile has been charged with inducing panic in connection with an alleged threat directed at Clearview High School and Durling Middle School in Sheffield Township.
The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office says it was around 3:36 a.m. Thursday when they received a notification from the FBI regarding a “potential bomb threat.”
“The FBI reported that the threat had been disseminated via Facebook, with the associated IP address linked to a fraudulent account,” according to a press release from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. “In response, the administrative staff of Clearview High School enacted a precautionary closure of all schools.”
Deputies then conducted a security sweep and K-9 bomb detection, but no devices or credible threats were found.
“Although Vincent Elementary School was not included in the initial threat assessment, it was also searched, resulting in no findings,” authorities said.
Later that morning, investigators from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office identified a juvenile suspect.
“Upon questioning, the juvenile confessed to both this threat and a previous incident that was under investigation,” authorities said. “The juvenile has been charged with inducing panic.”
Authorities did not release the child’s name or age.
