TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are investigating a shooting in Toledo's Old West End in which a 10-year-old girl was one of two victims.
The shooting happened about 1 p.m. on Saturday in the 1900 block of Collingwood Boulevard.
Toledo police said a black vehicle with tinted windows rolled up and someone inside shot at an SUV. 24-year-old Kenneth White and his niece, Damia Ezell, were struck by gunfire, according to police.
Both victims were taken to the hospital and required surgery. Authorities confirmed on Sunday that Damia died at the hospital.
On Monday, the Lucas County Coroner's Office said Damia was shot once in the chest.
Vanice Williams, Toledo City councilwoman who represents the district where the shooting took place release a statement on the shooting. "It is so unfortunate that a child was murdered today in broad daylight by individuals or [an] individual that is sitting somewhere going on with their life. You are a despicable person and deserve whatever karma has waiting for you. I send my condolences to the family and I am here for you. The community is hurt tonight and we need to come together to help bring these individuals to justice. Lord bless Toledo tonight.”
Several bullet holes were found in the door of the SUV targeted in the shooting and the front driver's window was completely shot out.
