According to a statement from Cleveland Clinic, the incident began with police responding to reports of stolen vehicles from an employee parking lot at the Clinic's main campus.

The officer was injured after a vehicle crashed into the Cleveland Clinic police car at the area of East 89th Street and Euclid Avenue. Cleveland Clinic told 3News that the officer has since been discharged from the hospital with minor injuries.

"This collision was not a result of a police pursuit," Cleveland Clinic added in its statement.

On Thursday, the Clinic confirmed that it was a stolen car that crashed into the police cruiser.

Witnesses at the scene told 3News' Neil Fischer that approximately four teenagers ran from a black KIA that crashed into the police vehicle.

Cleveland Clinic says its main campus is secure and all hospital operations are continuing as planned. The area of East 89th and Euclid Avenue was closed for more than an hour as police worked to clear the area.
