Cleveland police: 10 shot, 2 killed over Memorial Day weekend

The incidents included a quadruple shooting downtown early Sunday morning that left a 28-year-old man dead.

CLEVELAND — Seven separate shootings left two people dead and eight others injured during Memorial Day weekend in Cleveland, police said Tuesday.

Officials detailed incidents from a period beginning Friday night through Monday, including a quadruple shooting that occurred downtown early Sunday morning following an apparent argument. That episode on St. Clair Avenue sent three people to the hospital and also killed 28-year-old Tavon Thompson, with no suspects currently in custody.

Just after 8 a.m. Monday morning, authorities reported a second homicide, with a 28-year-old man being shot on Caine Avenue in Corlett. The victim, identified as Bedford resident Rodney Jefferson, died from his injuries at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. No arrests have been made at this time.

The other shootings occurred as follows:

  • Friday, 9:17 p.m.: A 32-year-old man took himself to the hospital after being shot at an unknown location.
  • Saturday, 2:37 a.m.: A 22-year-old woman was shot near the intersection of East 152nd Street and St. Clair. She took herself to the hospital.
  • Saturday, 7:52 a.m.: A 46-year-old man took himself to the hospital after being shot neat the intersection of West 31st Street and Clark Avenue.
  • Sunday, 1:54 a.m.: A 23-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the hospital after being shot near the intersection of East 104th Street and Harvard Avenue.
  • Monday, 6:48 p.m.: A 21-year-old man took himself to the hospital after being shot in the 4700 block of East 173rd Street.
